This year the VFPL will be on hiatus. I simply don’t have time to run it. So we’ll all have to put up with Nate waving his rings around for another year as defending VPFL champion.
69 RR Redbeards
35 Texas Chili Eaters
And so it is that Nate claims his second VPFL title. It’s mildly astonishing, in light of how his team scored more than only two other teams during the regular season, 174 less than the league-leading Cornshuckers. But, as the 2007 Patriots know, timing is everything. Congratulations to Nate, who is no doubt off being measured for a second ring as we speak.
I wasn’t too disappointed with my own performance despite the results; I could have done a little better with regards to picking up players, having made only 18 moves, the least in the league, and probably should have gone with Adrian Foster over Giovanni Bernard as my third keeper, but what kept me out of the playoffs was giving up 1013 points, second-most in the league.
Final standings for next year’s draft:
- RR Redbeards (9-5-0)
- Texas Chili Eaters (8-5-1)
- Greenfield Grizzlies (9-5-0)
- Bane Cornshuckers (9-5-0)
- FavreDollar Footlongs (6-8-0)
- Gilbert Gamma Rays (8-6-0)
- Mounds View Meerkats (8-6-0)
- King (7-7-0)
- Boot Hill Bogs (3-10-1)
- Clerical Errs (2-12-0)
Thanks to all the participants. Next year, we’ll have 6 new volunteers taking over the non-permanent teams, in addition to the VP-AFL champion.
74 Texas Chili Eaters
56 Bane Cornshuckers
54 RR Redbeards
50 Greenfield Grizzlies
Live by the Manning, die by the Manning. Both the defending champion and the regular season champion were upset, creating an opening for a shock return to the VPFL championship game by the dark horse Redbeards.
114 Gilbert Gamma Rays (8-6-0)
93 Bane Cornshuckers (9-5-0)
91 Boot Hill Bogs (3-10-1)
49 Greenfield Grizzlies (9-5-0)
73 Texas Chili Eaters (8-5-1)
54 Mounds View Meerkats (8-6-0)
62 RR Redbeards (9-5-0)
57 Clerical Errs (2-12-0)
57 King (7-7-0)
46 Favre Dollar Footlongs (6-8-0)
One game out of first, 14 points from scoring the most points, and I miss the playoffs. Well, I can’t complain. It was a MAJOR choke job by D. Thomas, G. Bernard, and A. Morris, who scored 0 points, 24 less than estimated and 20 less than I needed.
It rather reminds me of the playoff game the year I had both Daunte Culpepper and Jeff Garcia, obliterated the regular season, and agonized over which one of them to start. I don’t remember with whom I went, because it turned out it didn’t matter, both of them scored next to nothing and I went one-and-done.
In the 2014 VPFL playoffs, the Chili Eaters are favored by a single point over the regular season champion Cornshuckers, and the Redbeards are favored over the defending champion Grizzlies.
Ladies and gentlemen, JOHNNY FOOTBALL! This is not a quarterback who is ready for the NFL. His second (third) interception was one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time.
108 Bane Cornshuckers (9-4-0)
52 Texas Chili Eaters (7-5-1)
90 Mounds View Meerkats (8-5-0)
55 Boot Hill Bogs (2-10-1)
95 Favre Dollar Footlongs (6-7-0)

95 King (6-7-0)
62 Clerical Errs (2-11-0)
70 RR Redbeards (8-5-0)
59 Gilbert Gamma Rays (7-6-0)
After a 38-point explosion from the Chili Eaters, I can’t believe that I’m in danger of missing the playoffs while scoring the most points in the league. Again.
71 Greenfield Grizzlies (9-3-0)
44 King (5-7-0)
82 Mounds View Meerkats (7-5-0)
76 Favre Dollar Footlongs (5-7-0)
75 Bane Cornshuckers (8-4-0)
52 Boot Hill Bogs (2-9-1)
85 Texas Chili Eaters (7-4-1)
73 RR Redbeards (7-5-0)
108 Gilbert Gamma Rays (7-5-0)
48 Clerical Errs (2-10-0)
The playoff race is tightening up, as only the defending champions look safe. Four teams are essentially out already, leaving five teams ranging from 8-4 to 7-5 battling for four spots. No one has a particularly easier schedule, so a lot of it is going to come down to head-to-head competition.
67 Mounds View Meerkats (6-5-0)
59 King (5-6-0)
71 Clerical Errs (2-9-0)
49 Greenfield Grizzlies (8-3-0)
64 Bane Cornshuckers (7-4-0)
60 Favre Dollar Footlongs (5-6-0)
54 RR Redbeards (7-4-0)
52 Boot Hill Bogs (2-8-1)
80 Texas Chili Eaters (6-4-1)
45 Gilbert Gamma Rays (6-5-0)
I’ve got 36 more points than any other team and I’m in 5th place. This is all too typical of my fantasy football seasons. Not a bad performance by the Vikes, respectable enough to avoid too much mocking from the Packers fans, anyhow.
102 Greenfield Grizzlies (8-2-0)
86 Mounds View Meerkats (5-5-0)
93 Bane Cornshuckers (6-4-0)
49 King (5-5-0)
81 RR Redbeards (6-4-0)
79 Favre Dollar Footlongs (5-5-0)
81 Gilbert Gamma Rays (6-4-0)
54 Boot Hill Bogs (2-7-1)
79 Texas Chili Eaters (5-4-1)
64 Clerical Errs (1-9-0)
Bloody Grizzlies…. It’s good to see that it looks like the Vikings should be getting AD back soon. I have slightly mixed feelings about this week’s game, however. A friend of mine is tight with the Bears’ head coach, and I have the sense that a blowout Vikings would likely seal Trestman’s fate immediately. But honestly, if he can’t stop the Bears’ historic defensive meltdown against a rookie quarterback leading a division rival missing its star player at home, then he probably should lose his job before the end of the season.
One of the fascinating things about seeing the Bears implode is that I know for a fact that Marc Trestman is a very smart guy. He’s probably one of the smarter coaches in the league. So the whole thing has provided an object lesson in demonstrating the fact that sheer intelligence, even when combined with hard work, is not necessarily synonymous with success.
UPDATE: Sweet fake punt by the Vikes leads to a touchdown. And to think Sparklepunter tried to get Mike Priefer fired! Lesson: never listen to an idiot punter.
93 Bane Cornshuckers (5-4-0)
75 Greenfield Grizzlies (7-2-0)
83 King (5-4-0)
63 RR Redbeards (5-4-0)
77 Clerical Errs (1-8-0)
67 Mounds View Meerkats (5-4-0)
71 Gilbert Gamma Rays (5-4-0)
42 Favre Dollar Footlongs (5-4-0)
57 Texas Chili Eaters (4-4-1)
57 Boot Hill Bogs (1-8-0)
And here I thought it was an easy week before the bye. Not so good. Practically everyone is in playoff contention, led by the defending champs who have a two-game lead going into their battle with the Meerkats.
61 Greenfield Grizzlies (7-1)
39 RR Redbeards (5-3)
108 Bane Cornshuckers (4-4)
73 Mounds View Meerkats (5-3)

94 Gilbert Gamma Rays (4-4)
87 Favre Dollar Footlongs (5-3)
75 Texas Chili Eaters (4-4)
60 Boot Hill Bogs (2-6)
50 Clerical Errs (0-6)
