Most “science” is fake science

Yet another incident demonstrating why it is so amusing when people argue that religion is false and the supernatural does not exist because science:

The journal Tumor Biology is retracting 107 research papers after discovering that the authors faked the peer review process. This isn’t the journal’s first rodeo. Late last year, 58 papers were retracted from seven different journals— 25 came from Tumor Biology for the same reason.

It’s possible to fake peer review because authors are often asked to suggest potential reviewers for their own papers. This is done because research subjects are often blindingly niche; a researcher working in a sub-sub-field may be more aware than the journal editor of who is best-placed to assess the work.

But some journals go further and request, or allow, authors to submit the contact details of these potential reviewers. If the editor isn’t aware of the potential for a scam, they then merrily send the requests for review out to fake e-mail addresses, often using the names of actual researchers. And at the other end of the fake e-mail address is someone who’s in on the game and happy to send in a friendly review.

Fake peer reviewers often “know what a review looks like and know enough to make it look plausible,” said Elizabeth Wager, editor of the journal Research Integrity & Peer Review. But they aren’t always good at faking less obvious quirks of academia: “When a lot of the fake peer reviews first came up, one of the reasons the editors spotted them was that the reviewers responded on time,” Wager told Ars. Reviewers almost always have to be chased, so “this was the red flag. And in a few cases, both the reviews would pop up within a few minutes of each other.”

All of the arguments about the presumed reliability of science are ridiculous and easily shown to be false. Science is no more “self-correcting” than accounting. Peer review is more commonly known as “proofreading” by the rest of the publishing industry and is not even theoretically a means of ensuring accuracy or correctness. And scientists are observably less trustworthy than nearly anyone except lawyers, politicians, and used car salesmen; at least prostitutes are honest about their pursuit of “grants” and “funding”.

These days, the scientific process is mainly honored in the breach by professsional, credentialed scientists. And we have a word for testable, reliable science. That word is “engineering”.

Gamedev help

Will whoever sent me the questions for Command & Conquer: Red Alert please resend the multiple choice answers to me? Somehow, the database got confused and saved over the multiple choice answers to the 10 questions.

Thank you.

Btw, we’re well over 2k questions now and we’re implementing the graphics. The game should be out this summer and it is going to be excellent.

Dear white sports fans

Please to go away now. We neither want nor need you.

For comparative purposes, I recently reviewed a few SportsCenter episodes from the past couple of decades, and it is indeed noticeable how little politics and culture intruded into the tsunami of highlights and witty banter that once marked that show. That was reflective of the overall newsier focus ESPN had in those days….

A scan of The Undefeated on most days shows a range of content that extends far beyond sports. When The Undefeated put together its list of the 44 most influential black Americans in history, only five — Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson and Serena Williams — made their mark as athletes. Scanning the list of Undefeated pieces commemorating Black History Month, less than half were about sports.

These observations are not criticisms; they just show how The Undefeated — and, by extension, ESPN — is willing to stray from sports…. There is no denying that culture, sports and politics are fused together more today than at any time in recent memory, and there’s an argument to be made that ESPN is rightfully taking advantage of that trend. But there’s also no denying the presence of a fervent fan base that prefers the ESPN of old, meaning these worlds will continue to collide.

One thing is clear: Those of you who have not held your tongue about ESPN’s move away from an all-sports-all-the-time mantra also should not hold your breath waiting for a change.

ESPN has made it clear: It’s not sticking to sports.

Apparently as many as 90 percent of the 100 on-air people let go this week were white men. Longtime NFL and NHL reporters are gone, while clueless, no-talent SJWs like Jemele Hill are not only safe, but are being increasingly promoted.

It’s a straightforward case of SJW convergence in action. ESPN is no longer capable of fulfilling its primary purpose, because the pushing the SJW Narrative is more important.

I quit watching ESPN a long, long time ago, although I had watched it from the early days of late night World’s Strongest Man competitions and Australian Rules Football. It is somewhat fascinating to observe such a large organization so resolutely commit suicide in this fashion.

Dear ESPN,

Roger that.

UPDATE: for those of you who, like me, neither read nor watch ESPN anymore, it’s worse than you imagine. A LOT worse. Believe it or not, this was featured on ESPN yesterday.

An Alt-Right army

You may as well join the Alt-Right, gentlemen. Because that’s what they’re going to call you anyhow:

An alt-right group apparently is trying to build a small street army — vowing to use violence if necessary to defend free speech from leftist extremists.

Kyle Chapman — a “proud American nationalist” who became a conservative hero in some circles after his arrest this month during fierce clashes between anti-fascist protesters and Trump demonstrators — announced the formation of the new group last week on Facebook and issued a call to action.

“Our emphasis will be on street activism, preparation, defense and confrontation,” Chapman wrote on Facebook. “We will protect and defend our right wing brethren when the police and government fail to do so. This organization is for those that possess the Warrior Spirit. The weak or timid need not apply.”

Chapman said the organization, the Fraternal Order of Alt-Knights, will be partnering with the Proud Boys, a conservative group formed by Vice co-founder Gavin McInnes that bills itself as “Western chauvinists who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world.” (McInnes is no longer affiliated with Vice and parted ways with the company 10 years ago.)

The formation of the new fraternity is being done with McInnes’ approval and Chapman is calling for action to defend against “Marxist groups that are intent on stripping us our freedoms,” according to another Facebook post.

“No more keyboard warrior s–t,” Chapman wrote in an earlier post. “No more crying about the state of our country while you do nothing to change it. It’s all about action. President Trump has our back for the next 8 years. The timing couldn’t be better. Let’s do this!”

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups and other extremist organizations, has taken notice of the “highly masculine” group, likening it to a neo-Nazi fight club called the “DIY Division,” whose members turned up in California last month to support an estimated 2,000 Trump supporters.

Strange, is it now, how the SPLC never seems to take notice of antifa or any other violent left-wing group no matter how many people they assault. But when people merely begin to plan to start defending themselves against the violent left that is attacking them, well, it’s THE SHOAH ALL OVAH AGAIN, again.

SPLC’s fundraising histrionics notwithstanding, the Men of the West, the Proud Boys and Violent Solutions are only the merest spark of the inferno that is going to sweep over the entire West in time. Liberalism has observably failed. Civic nationalism has observably failed. The so-called Enlightenment has not only observably failed, it was an obvious absurdity from the very beginning. The Alt-Right Revolution is the only response that is in line with the long term historical trends that does not involve complete societal, and possibly civilizational, collapse.

The occupied and invaded West will rise again, just as it did after Charles Martel defeated the Moor at Tours. The descendants of Lepanto and Vienna have not surrendered, they simply have not yet begun to expel the occupiers and invaders. But they will, as they have repeatedly done before.

Ce ne sont pas l’économie

The global elite will fall in the end. The global elite can claim that l’économie est nous all they want, but it isn’t and it never has been.

The world is run by an international elite that lives in a rarified world of seemingly boundless power and luxury. Though the members of this elite consider their own power and luxury to be completely legitimate, it is not. It is the product of a system that’s rigged to benefit them while everybody else languishes in declining small cities and provincial towns, eking out a dreary existence, toiling away their lives in menial service-sector jobs or scraping by on disability checks while seeking out a modicum of fleeting joy in the dumbstruck haze of a painkiller high.

Unless something fundamental changes, the gap separating these worlds will only increase, economically, culturally, and psychologically. Republicans show every sign of continuing to pursue policies that actively make the economic problems worse. Centrist Democrats, meanwhile, appear to be both unwilling to propose a sweeping critique of the outlook and policies that got us to this point in the first place and inclined to dismiss the populist anger building all around us as an expression of atavistic prejudice.

This cannot last. At this rate, make no mistake: The global elite will fall.

Their parasite economy of finance-based ownership of real world property and produce rests entirely upon the false claims it generates upon the real economy. And all it takes to destroy the parasite economy is the mass refusal to recognize its claims, many of which are already known to be completely fictitious. See: the mortgage title scandal of 2008 onwards.

The parasite economy is already killing its host. It is like a drunken vampire who is too intoxicated to stop draining his victim. And once the host collapses, its component parts will turn on the parasites with a vengeance.

This isn’t a failure of capitalism, this is a tripartite failure of usury, fraud, and fundamental morality. The Alt-Right Revolution cometh.

Mailvox: what does Le Pen need to do?

What does Le Pen need to do in the brief time between now and May 7 to win the French election?

To win the French election, Marine Le Pen needs to convince the
anti-EU French Left that national sovereignty is more important
than the precise shape of domestic policy in the next few years.
This will be challenging, since one of the chief attributes of the
Left is its inability to think in the long term.

Blame the blameworthy

JM is disappointed in Ann Coulter’s decision to cancel her speech at Berkeley:

Ann Coulter has proven herself to be Ted Cruz; acts tough, promises to be a general and lead the charge, yet when the troops have their arms ready and are awaiting the command she chickens out. It’s not that people like her can’t be an ally, it’s that they can’t be trusted to stand their ground when things get tough. So if she doesn’t want to lead the charge others will just take over that responsibility from her.

TLM, on the other hand, is not:

I consider this a tactical retreat. Anne has been a more than a worthy adversary to Satan and his minions. I do not begrudge her for not being a point man in a scenario that had a very good probability of seeing violence. Anne is scrawny and probably represents Double XP to some antifata coward. We need some one like Mike to go there. Some that can take and give a punch.

My perspective is closer to Q’s:

I don’t know, if you emphatically, publicly. state over and over that the speech will go on, no matter the cancellation, then the speech should go on. Hire Blackwater if need be, but to cancel like this at the last minute, really does give victory to mere threats of violence. To claim it doesn’t is to lie to oneself, or others…. ANTIFA was just handed a victory of enormous value. They punked the entire right, that is how they will see it. They were allowed to do so because the right has no real leadership at this time. My goodness, David French at NRO is simply beside himself with the possible ramifications of all this..he might do something rash, and tweet out a cuss word or something. Vox was absolutely right, Ann was betrayed by “conservatives”, until they are pushed out of the way, the left will continue to advance. Even with the GOP holding complete power over the federal govt, the left advances…while “conservatives” cower. Every site today on the right is lit up with: ought to, should be, there needs to be, why isn’t, how come, where is..” People are still in a state of mind that leads them to believe there is an “authority” that will stop all this unrest. they voted for law & order after all. When the entire point of ANTIFA is to make their vote meaningless.

That being said, I don’t blame Ann in the slightest for cancelling after being betrayed by her so-called allies who invited her. She’s not a general, she doesn’t promise to be, and while she is somewhat of an opinion leader, she has never built any sort of organization around her like the Proud Boys, the Dread Ilk, or Violent Solutions.

Did she talk a little tougher than she was able to back up? Yes, but then, what do you expect? She’s a woman, and women should not be leading these things. They will always tend to shrink from potential violence and fail to anticipate it because it is not really part of their world. Moldilocks wouldn’t have been out to collect 100 Nazi scalps if she’d believed for a second that a man might retaliate and hit her back.

In the meantime, I’m glad to see Gavin, Brittany, and the others are going to make an appearance and take on Antifa. I expect the VFM and Ilk who will be there to have their backs.

Coulter cancels speech

Ann Coulter, quite understandably, has decided to cancel her scheduled Berkeley appearance:

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter has canceled her speech planned for this week at the University of California’s Berkeley campus after a dispute with university officials, who feared violent protests, over whether a safe venue could be found. “There will be no speech,” she wrote in an email to Reuters on Wednesday, saying two conservative groups sponsoring her speech were no longer supporting her. “I looked over my shoulder and my allies had joined the other team,” she wrote.

Never count on conservatives. They’ll usually find a way to cuck out somehow. I tend to doubt that Milo, with his backing from the Alt-Lite and Alt-Right, will see the need to do the same.
